The PM4NGOs Board has launched a consultation on the introduction of a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme for all PMD and PgMD Professionals.
CPD is established practice in many professional organizations. Current research shows that CPD helps people to do their jobs better, maintain and enhance their skills and knowledge.
Our initial proposal is for a competency-based CPD scheme. Professionals would produce an annual CPD plan by reviewing the NGO-PPM competency framework (currently under development) with their line managers. PM4NGOs and its partners would provide competency-based opportunities for CPD through its website. There would be points for each activity completed, based on time taken. The focus would be on learning, not simply attendance, so CPD points would only be accrued if a reflective comment is entered in the individual's log. A specified minimum number of points would need to be earned annually. Importantly, the scheme must not be a burden on busy staff or a box-ticking exercise.
Last year we consulted trainers for our preliminary research. Now we would like to consult:
NGOs whose staff have the PMD Pro certification;
PMD Pro Trainers;
Individuals who have the PMD Pro certification.
We would greatly appreciate your feedback on our proposal and any ideas on how CPD could be provided.
